If you have an active roof leak and a stain is spreading across your ceiling, here's a tip I give homeowners: catch the water in the attic, before it reaches the drywall. Read the safety part first.
Read this first: this is a tip, not a repair, and an attic is a dangerous place. There are a ton of nails in the roof, and their points come through the deck right over your head. If you can't get up there safely, don't.
The stain on your ceiling is water that has already soaked into the drywall. By the time you see it, the drywall is wet. If you can get a bucket under the drip up in the attic, the water lands in the bucket instead of on the back of your ceiling, and the stain stops growing.
Inside an attic on an inspection in Azusa: the roof deck overhead and water staining on the framing.
Where the water drips in the attic usually isn't where it gets in. Water travels along the underlayment and the framing before it shows up, so the entry point is often several feet from the drip. That's why we find the source before we quote a fix. How we do that is in how we find a roof leak, and what to do while it's still raining is in our roof leak during a storm guide.
Same idea I wrote about in a roof leak is a floor hazard too: a bucket catches the water, but it doesn't fix anything.
Catch it in the attic. Then get the roof fixed.
Free estimate, in writing. We'll find where the water is getting in and tell you straight what it takes to fix it. We do asphalt shingle roofs, tile replacement with new tile, tile lift and relay, and flat roofs across the Inland Empire.
