When the Roofer Disappears and the Roof Is Still Open
This one in West Covina was not our job to begin with. Another contractor started it, opened the roof, and then stopped showing up. The homeowner was left with a house that had no roof on part of it and no idea when anybody was coming back.
We got the call, went out, and tarped it. Then we picked up the work and finished it.
A tarp is not a repair and we never sell it as one. It is a way to stop water from getting into the house tonight so the actual work can happen in daylight, dry, with the right material on the truck. Notice it is pulled tight and run well past the open area in every direction. A loose tarp flaps, catches wind, and works itself off the roof by morning.
Picking up somebody else's job is priced differently, and it can go either direction. There is usually no tear-off left to do, which takes cost out. But if the last guy covered work that the city never inspected, that work has to come off and go back on so it can be inspected, and that puts cost back in.
